Terrific opportunity for all Scouts in the Blue Ridge Mountains Council. Two Saturdays dedicated to completion of merit badges. Some offered for first time, many Eagle required. Largest Merit Badge College yet. 700 class seats. 40+ classes offered.

Council-Wide Merit Badge College 2014
Co-hosted by Big Lick and V-Da-Li Districts


Registration is done by Troop only, by a single point-of-contact, using the on-line registration system. Registration is required for Scouts taking merit badge classes and for lunch option. Registration opens February 2nd and closes March 2nd. Troops who have provided merit badge counselors may register one week early beginning on January 26th. Classes will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis; Troops may waitlist a Scout if a class is full. Walk-in registration on the day of the Merit Badge College can be done on a space available basis. Classes have a minimum size of five and a maximum size; see Class List.


The Merit Badge College is being held at Benjamin Franklin Middle School, 225 Middle School Road, Rocky Mount, VA 24151. Troops are required to check-in each Saturday morning; check-in begins at 7:30am, grand opening ceremonies are at 8:30am, and classes run from 9:00am to 3:50pm. Classes will be conducted in either 1.5 hour or 3.0 hour sessions each Saturday; attendance is required on both Saturdays.


Payment in full for each Troop can be made on-line here with a credit card at the close of registration, by check delivered to the Council office, or by check at the Merit Badge College. The Blue Ridge Mountains Council address is: 2131 Valley View Blvd., Roanoke, VA 24012.


$10.00 per Boy Scout. Some merit badges require an additional fee; see Class List.

Merit Badges

Only Scouts who complete all merit badge requirements as officially listed at, as determined by the counselor, will have their Blue Cards signed as completed; see Class List.


Lunch option, consisting of 2 slices of pizza, chips or cookie, and a drink, can be reserved at the time of registration for $5.00 per meal; a la cart items will also be available.

Prerequisites and Homework

Some merit badges require prerequisite work by the Scout prior to the first Saturday; see Class List. Homework will be assigned by some counselors for completion prior to the second Saturday.

Troop Responsibilities

Troops are responsible for assigning a single-point-of contact for registration, for payment in full, for insuring that each of their Scouts completes the merit badge class prerequisites ahead of time, for insuring that at least one adult leader remains at the Merit Badge College to be responsible for his/her Scouts and to assist counselors in their classes, for insuring that each of their Scouts brings a Blue Card signed by their Troop Leader for each merit badge for which they have registered, for insuring that Scouts wear Class A or B uniforms, and for insuring that each Scout brings a pen and notebook; they may also want to bring lunch.     Largest Merit Badge College Yet

    350 Scouts from virtually all Districts in the Council taking 45 classes made this our largest Merit Badge College yet. Over 2,500 hours of adult volunteer time went into making this event a huge success; all deserve a big thank you. We have scheduled the 2015 Merit Badge College for March 14 and April 11.

    Registration Closed

    Terrific response. 45 merit badge classes and 750 class seats have been filled by Troops throughout the Council. Registered Troops may print enrollment rosters and make on-line payment. Scouts must complete required prerequisites. Required Troop check-in begins at 7:30AM on March 15; we will have a big Opening Ceremony.

    Communications, Family Life, and Personal Management Classes Added

    We just added M43 Family Life, M44 Personal Management, and M45 Communications classes and have moved Scouts from the top of the Waiting List into them. This expands our Merit Badge College capacity to 750 class seats.

    Wait List Efforts Underway

    Efforts are underway to help Scouts on the Wait List by lining up counselors for additional classes for: Communication, Family Life, Personal Management, and Space Exploration. Troops will be contacted if/when classes are added and offered the opportunity to move Scouts into the added classes.

    Open Seats Remaining

    Thank you for the demand; most class seats are filled. Still open seats in M07 Citizenship in the World, M13 Disabilities Awareness, M39 Safety, M41 Stamp Collecting, and a few others.

    Troop Registration Process

    Troops begin registration by clicking the red Register Now Signup button that appears middle right on the screen to create a new ID and Password for this year. IDs and Passwords from a previous year do not work. Once a Troop is registered, they use the ID and Password for this year to return to make updates. Each of the Scoutmasters of Troops who provided merit badge counselors have been supplied login information; just over 50% of the class seats have been filled by these Troops.

    Responsible Adult

    New this year. Each Troop that registers is required to register an adult who will stay at the Merit Badge College to look after their Scouts and assist in the class rooms. Just use the Register Adult command on the upper left pull down menu.

    Each of the Scoutmasters of Troops who provided merit badge counselors have been supplied login information for early registration that opens for them on January 26.

    Registration Will Open

    Registration opens for Troops throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains Council on February 2nd and closes March 2nd. Troops who have provided merit badge counselors may register one week early beginning on January 26th (#45, 48, 50, 129, 130, 136, 152, 167, 221, 235, 316, 362, 375, 456, 549).
