Terrific opportunity for all Scouts in the Blue Ridge Mountains Council. Two Saturdays dedicated to completion of merit badges; many offered for the first time, many Eagle required.

Council-Wide Merit Badge College 2017
Co-hosted by Great Valley and Patrick Henry Districts


Registration is done by Troop only, by a single point-of-contact, using the on-line registration system. Registration is required for Scouts taking merit badge classes and for lunch option. Registration opens Sunday, February 25th and closes Monday, March 5th. Troops who have provided merit badge counselors may register one week early beginning on Wednesday, February 1st. Classes will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis; Troops may waitlist a Scout if a class is full. Limited walk-in registration on the day of the Merit Badge College can be done on a space available basis. Classes have a minimum size of five and a maximum size; see Class List.


The Merit Badge College is being held at our new location at the Franklin County High School in Rocky Mount VA. Parking is quite limited. Troops are required to check-in each Saturday morning; check-in begins at 08:00am, grand opening ceremonies are at 8:30am, classes run from 9:00am to 4:00pm, lunch is from 12:00-1:00pm, Troops must check-out each Saturday afternoon prior to departure. Classes will be conducted in either 1.5 hour or 3.0 hour sessions each Saturday, attendance is required on both Saturdays; see Class List.


Payment in full for each Troop can be made on-line with a credit card at the close of registration, by check delivered to the Council office, or by check at the Merit Badge College. $15.00 per Boy Scout. Some merit badges require an additional fee; see Class List.

Merit Badges

Only Scouts who complete all merit badge requirements as officially listed at, as determined by the counselor, will have their Blue Cards signed as completed. Note the addition of some adult and Scout non-merit badge classes; see Class List.

Lunch Options

2 pizza slices, chips or cookie or apple, and a drink, can be reserved at the time of registration for $6.00 per meal; a la carte items available too.

Prerequisites and Homework

Homework will be assigned by some counselors for completion prior to the second Saturday. Some merit badges require prerequisite work by the Scout prior to the first Saturday; see Class List.

Troop Responsibilities

Troops are responsible for assigning a single-point-of contact for registration, for payment in full, for checking-in each Saturday morning, for checking-out each Saturday afternoon, for insuring that each of their Scouts completes the merit badge class prerequisites ahead of time, for insuring that at least two adult leaders remain at the Merit Badge College to be responsible for his/her Scouts and to assist counselors in their classes, for insuring that each of their Scouts brings a Blue Card signed by their Troop Leader for each merit badge for which they have registered, for insuring that Scouts wear Class A or B uniforms, and for insuring that each Scout brings a pen and notebook; they may also want to bring lunch. All adults at this event are expected to help manage Scout behavior; we suffered from some very negative Scout behavior last year. Other supplies may be needed; see Class List.
